Unfortunately, most American adults, teenagers, and children only ingest about half the amount of calcium they need daily. The good news is that it’s never too late to start increasing your calcium intake. Mountain High Yoghurt can help! Each 8-oz. serving contains at least 30% of the adult recommended daily amount of calcium.
Live, Active, and Probiotic Cultures for Your Health Perhaps the best thing for you in every single cup of all natural Mountain High Yoghurt is something you can’t even see: billions of live, active, and probiotic cultures that work synergistically to boost your overall health.
Did you know that 70% of your immune system function resides in your digestive tract? Probiotic cultures that naturally occur in the human body are a big part of this system. Some of them die off every day fighting disease and illness, however, so it’s important to replenish them regularly. Yoghurt with adequate levels of live, active, and probiotics cultures—such as Mountain High—is a great source of replenishment.
Ever since we started making it 30 years ago, Mountain High Yoghurt has contained a special blend of cultures: L. bulgaricus and S. thermophilus (the L. stands for Lactobacillus, the S. stands for Streptococcus), which are live and active yoghurt cultures; and L. acidophilus, B. bifidus, and L. casei (the L. stands for Lactobacillus, the B. stands for Bifidobacterium), which are live and active probiotic cultures. For decades, our unique culture blend with these three probiotic cultures has been providing a great number of health benefits no other brand can claim. We truly understand the benefits of probiotic cultures—that’s why we’ve always used them.
L. acidophilus, B. bifidus, and L. casei are probiotic (or “life promoting”) cultures and highly beneficial for many reasons. Together they increase the number of beneficial bacteria that naturally reside in your digestive tract. These helpful bacteria serve numerous functions in digestion, metabolism (the breakdown and synthesis of energy and vital nutrients), and immunity (resistance to disease and infection). Healthy levels of these probiotic cultures can:
- stimulate the immune system to resist illness, including infection from the common cold and influenza viruses, as well as more serious pathogens
- discourage the growth of harmful bacteria and other pathogens
- aid digestion by increasing enzyme levels
- increase absorption of calcium and other nutrients
- help break down lactose (milk sugar)
- reduce/avoid the onset of or speed recovery from diarrhea
L. bulgaricus and S. thermophilus are "starter cultures." They turn milk into yoghurt. Although these two also offer some health benefits, the greatest benefits come from the probiotic cultures.

Lower Your Cholesterol with Yoghurt The probiotic culture L. acidophilus is in every cup of Mountain High Yoghurt. Independent studies show that L. acidophilus interferes with the re-absorption of cholesterol in the intestines, which can help lower overall cholesterol levels.
Additionally, our Classic Lowfat, Lowfat, and Fat Free Yoghurt products contain minimal cholesterol per serving (5% or less of your daily value per 8-oz. serving), making them great food choices for individuals who need to limit their cholesterol intake. There are several flavors to choose from.
