Carob Peanutty Dog Bones

Don’t keep the health benefits of yoghurt to yourself! Share them with your best friend
—who will love you even more after eating one of these treats.

  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1½ cup corn grits
  • 1 cup Plain Mountain High yoghurt
  • 1 cup unsalted dry roasted peanuts, ground
  • ½ cup chicken broth
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 6 ounces carob chips

Combine all ingredients except carob chips in a large glass or ceramic mixing bowl and mix well. Form into one large dough ball, adding small amounts of flour if dough is too wet to form a ball.

Cut ball into 4 portions. Working with one portion of the dough on a lightly floured surface, roll it out to ¼-inch thickness. Cut out individual biscuits with large and small bone-shaped cookie cutters. Place on a greased baking pan, leaving space between each cookie. Continue until all the dough has been used.

Bake at 350ºF for about 30 minutes. Turn oven off, and leave treats in oven overnight for extra crispy “cookies.”

Melt carob chips in microwave: Place chips in a microwave-safe bowl and cook at 50% power for one minute. Stir and repeat up to one minute at a time, watching closely, as microwave wattages vary and may cause liquid to overcook.

Dip dog bones in melted carob and cool on a rack. Alternately, pour melted carob into a plastic bag and snip off one corner to drizzle carob over the baked bones. Let cool and wish your four-legged friends “Bonne Appetit!”

Makes about 34 large and small dog bones.
